Rashid Johnson

Artists Rashid Johnson exposed New American Art with Matthew Day Jackson during FIAC 2015 at the Studio des Acacias.

A major contributor to the rise of African-American artists in contemporary art today, Rashid Johnson is constantly interested in the cultural phenomena (from jazz to hip hop to Mohammed Ali) that have shaped his community. While his videos, photographs, sculptures, paintings, sculptures and installations question the diversity of African-American identity, they often have their origins in the artist's personal history or the 1970s when he was born.

Born in 1977, Rashid Johnson took his first steps in photography in 1996 before turning to a multi-media artistic practice. After studying at the Art Institute in Chicago, he moved to New York City where he was noticed by critics and the greatest art collectors. His exhibitions toured the world, from the Miami Art Museum to the Hauser & Wirth galleries in Zurich and London, as well as Greece, Italy and Germany.     > DISCOVER THE EXHIBITION
